Associate Dean for Research and STEM Initiatives (09-079)

The College of Education at Georgia State University invites applications and nominations for the Associate Dean for Research and STEM Initiatives, a tenure-track faculty position. The College, comprised of 54 academic disciplines, has programs at the baccalaureate, master, and doctoral level with approximately 3,000 students and 167 full time faculty.

The College is seeking an academic leader to advance the research and scholarship mission, to foster acquisition of new research funding and to serve as liaison to other colleges, agencies and universities. The Associate Dean for Research reports directly to the dean and is responsible, in conjunction with other college administrators and faculty, for enhancing the college’s research focus and strategic external relationships.

Successful candidates must have a doctoral degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics education. In addition, the applicant should have a strong record of scholarly accomplishments, externally funded STEM-related research, interdisciplinary research skills, and experience in mentoring faculty and students. Applicants should be qualified for appointment at the rank of professor in the academic unit of their discipline. Advanced associate professors with strong records of research and external funding are encouraged to apply.

Early Childhood Education

Tenure-track, Assistant/Associate Professor – Child Development (Birth-Five) (09-073)

The Department of Early Childhood Education is searching for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor with expertise in the preparation of early childhood educators (birth through five) who are specialized to support culturally and linguistically diverse student populations in urban settings. Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service appropriate to the discipline and to the incumbent's academic interests and qualifications. Teaching duties include advising, mentoring, and collaboration in curriculum improvement efforts. All Georgia State faculty are required to maintain an active and productive research agenda. The pursuit of external funding to support research is expected. Experience and expertise in birth through five teacher preparation is required. The individual will also be responsible for serving on department, college and university committees and participating in professional conferences and organizations.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in an educationally-related field (e.g., child development, infant and toddler development, family and child studies) with expertise in birth through five teacher preparation; evidence of research commensurate with rank sought; three years teaching or comparable experience preferably in settings serving diverse populations ages birth through five.

Educational Policy Studies

Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor – Research, Measurement and Statistics (09-039)

The Department of Educational Policy Studies announces an opening for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor in quantitative methods in the Research, Measurement, and Statistics Program. The College of Education is interested in someone with a strong publication record, demonstrated ability to generate external research funding, willingness to collaborate across departments within the College, and successful teaching, advising, and mentoring of students at the graduate level.

Qualifications include a doctoral degree in statistics, measurement or quantitative methods. Applicants may have a substantive interest in education or a closely related field and expertise in areas such as: multi-level modeling, latent variable/structural equation modeling, program evaluation, measurement theory, analysis of categorical data, longitudinal analysis, or mixed/multiple methods.

Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service appropriate to the discipline and to the incumbent's academic interests and qualifications. Teaching duties include teaching graduate courses; advising and mentoring students and junior colleagues; and collaborating in curriculum improvement efforts. The Department of Educational Policy Studies offers master’s and doctoral degrees in research methods, educational leadership, and social foundations of education. The department provides course work in these areas for other departments in the College of Education.

Educational Psychology and Special Education

Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor – Cognitive Development (09-080)

The Department of Educational Psychology and Special Education invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in educational psychology to begin August 2008. Candidates must have expertise in the area of cognitive development of children and adolescents. Preference will be given to applicants whose research has educational implications.

Candidates with research interests in urban contexts or with diverse populations are encouraged to apply. An earned doctorate in educational psychology, developmental psychology, or a related field is required. The applicant hired for this position will conduct research, teach primarily graduate courses, provide university and professional service, advise students, and direct graduate research in educational psychology.

Tenure-track Associate/Assistant Professor – Literacy/ESOL (09-087)

The Division of Language, Literacy and Social Studies Education in the Department of Middle-Secondary Education and Instructional Technology seeks an individual with scholarly interests and expertise in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The division includes internationally-known faculty with expertise in literacy, social studies, English education, and English as a second language.
