The Intercultural Relations component of the Office of Student Life and Leadership is committed to providing opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage in meaningful dialogues, actively participate in programs, and provide training opportunities to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the multitude of cultures present at Georgia State University. In this capacity, the Intercultural Relations staff is committed to creating and optimizing on teachable moments for the Georgia State community.
Goals of the program

To provide training and educational workshops that will increase the understanding of intercultural relations
- To serve as a resource to the Georgia State University community

To foster a culture where the norm is to have individuals from multiple backgrounds interacting on various levels
- To provide opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to engage in discourse on the role of culture in the larger society and individual personal/professional development.
Program Descriptions
Traditional Programming
A goal of IR is to provide students with opportunities to explore other cultures that differ from their own. In order to facilitate this, IR sponsors a number of programs that celebrate various cultural heritages. Examples of programs that have become traditions on campus are Through A Panther's Eye (an intercultural fair), Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Week, cultural awareness months, Building Universal Dialogue and Inclusion (BUDI), and awareness programs for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Questioning (LGBTQIQ) communities.
Evolving Experiences
This program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to engage in sustained dialogue related to a diverse range of cultural topics. The goal is to increase the level of understanding of Evolving Experiences participants by fostering an environment allowing open discussion and learning through the sharing of personal experience.
Intercultural Ambassadors
There are numerous opportunities for students to become involved in the promotion of cultural awareness and social justice initiatives as a member of the Intercultural Ambassadors. This group of students is responsible for assisting in the development of cultural programs, dialogue opportunities, and training related to cultural topics.

The Intercultural Relations Program seeks to collaborate with student organizations, university departments, faculty, and staff within the Georgia State University community in an effort to promote increased cultural awareness, interaction, and dialogue on various topics.
Examples of past collaborations are :
- Civic Engagement
Civic Engagement and Intercultural Relations are exploring ways to increase the level of involvement of Georgia State University community in community projects that examine local issues that can be considered on a global scale.
Additional Programs and Services
- Coordinate the selection of the annual Torch of Peace and Hosea Williams Awards for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation
- Provide workshops and training opportunities to increase cultural awareness
- Provide programming support for student organizations and university departments on cultural issues
- Sponsor the Intercultural Ambassadors- a student organization which assists in the promotion of the mission of Intercultural Relations
- Assist with the Safe Zone program which provides training and support on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Questioning (LGBTQIQ) matters.
