The Neuroscience Expo
The feature public education event of the year is our Neuroscience Expo. For the past two years, we have held the Expo in March at Zoo Atlanta. Although the first day of the event is for middle school students only and is limited to about 100 attendees, the second day is open to the public and has brought in almost 4,000 visitors.
Day 1 is a “reverse science fair” based on the model of the Brains Rule! Neuroscience Expositions program originally funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse through a grant to Dr. Andrea Zardetto-Smith in Nebraska.
Day 2 welcomes hundreds of volunteers and thousands of visitors for an open-format expo with generally 35 neuroscience activity booths at which visitors learn all about the brain and behavior. Eager learners take home lots of info and fun prizes at the end of the day. This program is coordinated by Dr. Kyle Frantz and staff members of the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience.
