Translation & Interpretation

Dr. Annette Cash, Program Director

The Graduate-level certificate programs in translation and interpretation were inaugurated in 1979 within the Department of Modern and Classical Languages in the Georgia State University College of Arts and Sciences to provide professional training for bilingual students interested in a career in translation and/or interpretation in Spanish. Students may enroll in one or both programs. A certificate is awarded following the successful completion of the courses prescribed sequence and satisfactory performance on the exit examination(s).

The translation program in French, German and Spanish is designed to develop advanced translation skills for students interested in acquiring a high level of proficiency in a specific language combination.

The interpretation program, only in Spanish, is designed to provide professional training in simultaneous and consecutive interpretation for bilingual students interested in becoming professional interpreters. Applicants to the program must have completed the translation sequence or demonstrate a comparable level of written and oral proficiency in their source and target languages. Emphasis is on Medical and Legal interpretation.
