Focus: 20th Century Spanish Peninsular Narrative; Hispanic Cultural Studies; Postmodernism

He is currently revising a manuscript titled "Transatlantic Mysteries: New Clues about ‘Noir’ Detective Fiction in Mexico and Spain (The Case of Paco Ignacio Taibo II and Manuel Vázquez Montalbán)." As part of his ongoing research, Dr. Nichols is examining border transgressions and the relationship between culture and capital in Spanish films like "Airbag" as well as in the music of singers like Manu Chao. In the Summer of 2004, he will begin research on a book-length manuscript that analyzes the "discourse of memory" in recent Spanish film, novel, and music as well as other forms of cultural production like museum expositions.
