Political & Jurisdictional Boundaries
The university serves a regional Atlanta population of more than four million, drawing most of its students from nine counties in a thirty-mile radius.
The downtown campus lies within the City of Atlanta’s Neighborhood Planning Unit-M (NPU-M). The Bureau of Planning maintains a Comprehensive Development Plan for NPU-M. The plan depicts the center of campus as part of a “Low Density Commercial” district, and the Fairlie Poplar area as part of a “High Density Commercial” district. These districts are much wider in area than the campus boundaries, reflecting the consistent overall land use patterns of downtown. Across I-75/85 are single family and low-density residential areas, and an industrial corridor along Dekalb Avenue.
