Master PlanSummary Page | Master Plan Table of Contents Previous Page | Next PageEnhancing Campus Image and Identity
The issue of image and identity is addressed through a number of avenues. Signage and wayfinding are central to this initiative, and it is the recommendation of this plan that the good work already underway by the university in branding and signage be continued. (See Image 5.9) The streetscape and public space improvements (See Image 5.10) along with a vibrant architectural character on campus will also contribute significantly to the image and identity of campus. An example is the proposal to close Gilmer Street between Hurt Park and the new Humanities Building. (See Figure 5.21) The portion of the street would become a forecourt to the new building and act as a link between the park and the new plaza. This portion of Gilmer Street would have limited vehicular access and could act as the formal front door to campus with valet parking and other amenities for visitors and guests.
