Athletic Complex at Panthersville

The university’s enrollment growth and increase in the number of traditional students calls for changes in the athletic facilites in place today. Importance will be placed on creating high-quality athletic facilities that are equal to, or better than, those of the other members of the Colonial Athletic Association in which Georgia State competes. (See Figure 5.24)

The following athletic facilities program would meet student needs by 2015:

Tennis:

  • • 6-8 outdoor courts
  • • 3-4 indoor courts

Track & Soccer:

  • • Olympic track, 8 lanes
  • • Soccer field inside track.
  • • Practice field outside, adjoining main area
  • • Seating: min, 500; max, 2,000. Assume 1,000.

Baseball:

  • • Expand grandstands to 1500-2000 seats
  • • New public access road
  • • (Improved fan facility is in process, to include a box office/concession stand/restroom building adjoining the current public entrance to the field)

Other Criteria:

  • • With the expansion, there is a need for a consolidated locker and weight room that could be shared by multiple teams (total, 150 lockers)
  • • The focus would be on making Panthersville Complex a home for Georgia State athletics.
