Freshmen Convocation
Freshman Convocation is a formal induction ceremony of the freshmen class each fall semester into the academic community of Georgia State University. Just as the graduation commencement serves as a ritual marking the completion of study, convocation is a ritual to signal the beginning of a college career. The University President presides over this event and leads students in the reciting of the freshmen pledge and the freshmen medallion ceremony.
Some highlights of Convocation include:
- The ceremony is attended by the President, Provost, College Deans, Student Government President, and many distinguished faculty and staff members.
- All students receive a class medallion which can be worn at Convocation and Commencement.
- Convocation is traditionally followed by the Panther Welcome Block Party for all student attendees and their parents and guests.
- Provides early integration activities that will help students bond with the Georgia State University community.
