Freshmen Convocation
Freshman Convocation is a formal induction ceremony of the freshmen class each fall semester into the academic community of Georgia State University. Just as the graduation commencement serves as a ritual marking the completion of study, convocation is a ritual to signal the beginning of a college career. The University President presides over this event and leads students in the reciting of the freshmen pledge and the freshmen medallion ceremony.
Some highlights of Convocation include:
- The ceremony is attended by the President, Provost, College Deans, Student Government President, and many distinguished faculty and staff members.
- All students receive a class medallion which can be worn at Convocation and Graduation.
- Convocation is traditionally followed by a post-Convocation reception for all student attendees and their parents and guests in the Student Recreation Center.
- Provides early integration activities that will help students bond with the Georgia State University community.
Convocation 2009 is scheduled for Sunday, August 16. More information will be out in summer 2009.
