        The Office of Educational Opportunity and TRIO Programs is one of the University's primary vehicles for outreach to the greater Atlanta community. The Office serves as the coordinating body for a variety of programs designed to provide access to educational opportunities, increase retention and graduation rates as well as prepare students for doctoral study. Among its current programs are the Educational Opportunity Center, Educational Talent Search, Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, Student Support Services, CCAMPIS, Upward Bound, and the Upward Bound Math-Science Program. All of these programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Ms. Cherryl F. Arnold, Director.

 

Educational Opportunity Center

Little Known Fact:

Georgia State's EOC office has served over 1260 participants a year since its initial funding in 1995.

The Educational Opportunity Center provides information regarding financial aid and academic assistance for adults who wish to pursue post-secondary education. The Center assists individuals in applying for admission to institutions that offer programs for post-secondary education, including preparing necessary applications for use by admissions and financial aid officers. Funding Amount: $1,276,000

Ronald E. McNair Program

Little Known Fact:

Georgia State University was one of the first 14 McNair Programs to be funded in 1989.

The McNair Program is a pre-graduate fellowship program designed to prepare undergraduate students for graduate studies. The goal of the program is to increase the attainment of the Ph.D. by students who are first generation/low-income and from underrepresented backgrounds. Funding Amount: $986,139


Upward Bound Project

Little Known Fact:

Georgia State's Upward Bound was started in 1986 and was first located in the College of Public and Urban Affairs.

A challenging precollege initiative designed to encourage and prepare potential first-generation college students to pursue a program of study at the postsecondary education level. The program features year-round instruction and tutoring along with a six-week summer component. Funding Amount: $2,188,050


Educational Talent Search

Little Known Fact:

Georgia State Talent Search was originally funded in 1982 and located in the School of Policy Studies

An exciting, innovative academic enrichment program designed to motivate students to stay in school while encouraging their pursuit of post-secondary education. This program provides academic, career, financial, and personal counseling to 600 eligible participants attending targeted schools in the Dekalb County Public School System. Funding Amount: $1,050,258


Upward Bound Math - Science

Little Known Fact:

Georgia State Upward Bound Math- Science was started in 2003.

Prepares high school students for college programs that lead to careers in math and science.  The program features an intensive summer component with hands-on laboratory activities and the opportunity to work with distinguished faculty from the fields of math, science, and technology. Funding Amount: $1,050,000

Student Support Services

Little Known Fact:

Georgia State's Student Support Services is celebrating its 25th year of serving students!

The program goal is to increase retention and graduation rates of first generation students, students with disabilities, or students who show financial need. The college experience is enhanced by providing tutoring, academic, personal and career counseling, advocacy, and study skills and related workshops. In addition, supplemental grant aid and scholarships are offered. Funding Amount: $830,473

A partnership with the Georgia State University Child Development Program. Student Support Services Students are eligible to receive child care assistance as they pursue their academic goals.
