International Education Week 2009


13th Annual Study Abroad Fair

Wednesday, October 14, 2009
10 AM - 3PM, Student Center Ballroom

Can't decide between Argentina, Australia, or Azerbaijan? Come and meet with representatives from over 60 international programs, including world-wide study, internship, work, opportunities. Learn about scholarships and other forms of financial aid. come see how far your education can take you!

Georgia State University Study Abroad Fair Registration Form

Please type in all fields. Print hard copy to be mailed to Study Abroad programs Office along with registration fee (if necessary) by September 18, 2009. Georgia State University programs can fax or e-mail regristration. All others must be mailed with registration fee. Space is limited so please register early. Table is only guaranteed after receipt of e-mail confirmation from our office. Registration accepted on an invitation-only basis until after deadline.

Broadening Horizons: Minority Students and Study Abroad Panel Discussion

Featuring a panel discussion by Georgia State University study abroad minority student questions and answers to follow.

Come join us for this very important discussion! We will explore the reasons why more minority students aren’t studying abroad, and seek ways to ensure that the demographic of study abroad students more closely mirrors the broad mosaic of students that are currently studying at Georgia State University. Some of the topics to be addressed include initial hesitations about studying abroad, such as financial concerns, major-related issues, lack of family support, and uncertainty about how minority students may be perceived in other parts of the world.


Crossing Paths, Crossing Cultures International Photo Competition Ceremony

This annual competition, ceremony, and exhibit seeks to bring together the cross-culture experiences of our study abroad students and our international students studying at Georgia State University. Study Abroad students enter photos from their time abroad, while students at GSU enter photos that they have taken of life in the U.S. The competition takes place in October and the winners are announced in November during International Education Week. Prizes are awarded, and guests enjoy live entertainment, food, and a fantastic exhibit.

International Day at the Commons!

When: Tuesday, March 31st, 5:00-7:00 PM
Where: The Commons Residence Halls

Free and open to all faculty, staff, students, and friends!

If you are a resident of The Commons Residence Halls, you won't want to miss out on the Second Annual International Day at the Commons! There will be international trivia games, a study abroad student panel discussion, international food, music and live dance performances, including salsa, elly dancing, and a West African dance group. So, don't miss out on the fun! Join us for a day in the sun learning about other cultures.

Broadening Horizons: Meet and Greet

Free and open to all faculty, staff, students, and friends!

This is a fun opportunity for Broadening Horizons Mentees, Mentors, and any other minority students interested in study abroad to hang out, meet new friends, and discuss study abroad. There will be an informal panel of returned study abroad students to speak about their experiences and answer questions. If you’ve studied abroad, be sure to bring your pictures to show others. If you haven’t studied abroad, be sure to bring your questions. And, you don’t want to miss out on the free food, so we’ll see you there!
