Instructions
1. Complete the online application (see table below for link)
2. Submit five (5) copies of your application essay and program description to the Study Abroad Programs office. Four of these essays will be distributed to members of the scholarship review committee, and one copy will be retained for our files. See below for essay instructions.
3. Print one (1) copy of the “My Grade Point Averages” screen from PAWS to hand in with your essays.
4. Submit all materials (essays and GPA printout) by the deadline listed to our office. Faxed or emailed materials are not acceptable.
*If you are abroad at the time you are applying, contact Daniel Jansen at djansen@gsu.edu for special instructions for submitting essays.

Mail: Please be mindful of the fact that mail, including campus mail, can be unpredictable and may not arrive in our office on time. We are unable to accept an application if it arrives in our office after the deadline, regardless of date of postmark or date placed in campus mail.

*Applications for Spring Semester competitions are available starting August 1.

Essay Instructions
The essay consists of two parts: the personal statement essay and the program description, plus a print-out of your PAWS “My Gradepoint Averages”
1.) Personal Statement Essay: Write an essay explaining your reasons for wanting to study abroad. No more than 500 words. Please address the following items:
• Specifically, what in your academic and/or personal experience inspired you to study abroad?
• Why did you select this particular program and country to complete coursework toward your degree?
• What do you hope to offer your host country/institution as a student of Georgia State University, and what do you expect to bring back to your campus and community as a result of this experience abroad?
• How do you expect this experience to affect your future?
This essay will weigh heavily towards your final ranking in the scholarship competition.
***Make sure to include your name, Panther ID, and name of study abroad program at the top of the page. Print five (5) copies of this essay and turn into the Study Abroad Programs Office.
2.) Study Abroad Program Description: In addition to the essay above, please write a description of your study abroad program. No more than 200 words. This description should be in your own words (not the description provided in a brochure or website listing).
***Make sure to include your name, Panther ID, and name of study abroad program at the top of the page. Print five (5) copies of this program description and turn into the Study Abroad Programs Office.
3.) You must also submit one (1) copy of your PAWS print-out “My Gradepoint Averages” to be handed in with essays.
