International Strategic Initiatives

International Strategic Initiatives (ISI) is a seed grant fund designed to leverage external funding from U.S. Government and State Agencies, foundations, international funding agencies and the private sector to support long-term strategically focused international cooperation partnerships. Each year, OIA issues a Request for Proposal (RFP) for ISI funds totaling between $100,000 and $120,000 and awards multiple grants to successful applicants. Since its inception in 1997, this program has leveraged some $48.5 million in external funding, thereby facilitating internationalization in all six of Georgia State’s colleges.

OIA serves as the secretariat for the ISI grant program and manages the annual ISI review and grant awards process. ISI grants have helped secure funding for distinguished programs such as the U.S. Department of Education funded National Resources Center for Middle East and Arabic Language Studies (College of Arts and Sciences) and numerous programs funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development in business, entrepreneurship, distance education, English language training, fiscal studies, taxation and decentralization. These and other programs funded with resources leveraged by ISI grants have allowed hundreds of Georgia State faculty members and students to expand their international engagement.
