The Office of the Ombudsperson (om’-budz-pur’-sen) provides a confidential place for students to discuss conflicts, problem situations, grievances and appeals of disciplinary and/or academic actions. The office acts as a neutral and impartial campus resource to assist students with informal complaint resolution and problem solving. Situations with which the Ombudsperson may assist include allegations of unfair treatment, interpersonal conflicts, faculty/student misunderstandings, grade appeals, discrimination, questions regarding University policy and procedure, disciplinary matters, supervisor/employee relations, and concerns about financial aid and/or student registration. The Office of the Ombudsperson also acts as the University’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Office and encourages the use of informal methods (including consultation; coaching [individual and group]; facilitation of group processes; and mediation) for the resolution of disputes.
