European Union Studies Program
Maymester Study Abroad

SUMMER STUDY ABROAD 2008
May 6-26, 2008

"Europe from a Policy Perspective: Government, Economics, and Leadership"

Strasbourg, France
Visits to Germany, Brussels, Paris, and Luxembourg
Optional Weekend in Berlin

  • A 21-Day study abroad Program in Strasbourg and Paris, France, from May 8-28, 2008.
  • Excursions are planned for Brussels and Luxembourg, with all transfers and field trips to EU Parliament and other EU sites included
  • Also included:
    • Field trips to Heidelberg, the Eifel region of Germany, NATO headquarters
    • Eleven nights residence at a French Chateau in Strasbourg
    • One in Trier and two in Brussels.
    • Five nights residence in a 3-star Paris Hotel
  • Course instruction is partially “built-in” to field trips. Nine-hour instruction schedule per week allows much free time to explore and discover the countries!
  • Program fee: $3790 (includes air, all ground transportation to included sites, travel insurance and many meals).
  • An optional weekend trip to Berlin from Strasbourg is available at extra cost (USD$400)
  • The program is open to Graduate and Undergraduate students.

  • Undergraduate Students must register for 6 hours of summer course work. This will include the University System's EU Center course, Environmental Policy and the EU (the latter taught partially on-line) and the 3 hour course, “International Relationships and Cultural Diversity in the Global Workplace: The European Context.”
    • Both courses will help students satisfy the curricular requirements of the undergraduate European Union Certificate Program in the University System. The courses will also satisfy Area E and/or Area F electives at many USG institutions. Students should check with their EU faculty representative on campus.
  • Graduate Students can take the “Cultural Diversity” course for 3 hours of summer credit (this course will not substitute for core degree requirements of graduate programs).
  • Students from other state institutions as well as out of state schools are eligible to apply for entry to the program.
  • All students pay in-state tuition. (Tuition is not included in program fee.)

Space is limited so early applications will be the most successful.

In Strasbourg, we will be housed in Château de Pourtalès, a 250-year-old castle nestled in a public park but only six miles from the historic city center. The castle provides classroom space, a library and dormitory rooms. Numerous outdoor and recreational facilities are nearby. Hotels will be used in Brussels, Trier and Paris.

Financial Aid

HOPE Funds, in some cases, can be applied toward tuition. In addition, financial aid may be available. Check with the Financial Aid Office at your institution.
