My work focuses on the major figures of German Idealism (especially Hegel) and their various attempts to understand the goals, methods, and results of the natural sciences, both in relation to philosophy and in relation to human life more generally. So far, my research has concentrated on their positions on mathematical physics (the topic of my current manuscript project), with a more recent turn toward considering their views on biology. My interest throughout is in understanding how to both distinguish and integrate naturalness and normativity, an interest I also pursue in the context of more recent (“Continental”) philosophy.
