All Admissions and Standards appeals and petitions (Admissions, Scholarship, and Academic Regs appeals) will use the following procedure:
1. Appeals/petitions may be initiated by students, faculty, or staff.
2. Admissions Appeals subcommittees and Scholarship Appeals subcommittees will be composed of at least two faculty. Academic Regulations Appeals subcommittees will be composed of at least three faculty.
3. The subcommittee will review the appeal/petition and take final action.
4. All subcommittee decisions will be distributed, on a regular basis and as information items, to all members of Admissions and Standards.
In the last five years, there has only been one objection to a subcommittee recommendation. This process keeps the full committee informed (so that they can remove members of the appeals/petitions committees if they feel that improper actions have occurred). This is more student-friendly because cases will be decided faster. Allowing appeals/petitions to be initiated by faculty and staff makes it possible for GSU to correct errors without informing students we have made a mistake and suggesting that they appeal. This too is more student-friendly.
