Admissions and Standards Committee

Motion to Revise the Admission Requirements for the Early Attendance Programs

Motion:

Admission to any of the three Early Attendance Programs for high school students (Program for Excellence, Postsecondary Options, and Summer Scholar) shall require all of the following:

1. Completion of all CPC requirements except that students who have not completed the final unit of high school English, mathematics, and/or social studies may be permitted to fulfill these high school requirements with the appropriate GSU courses.

2. A minimum high school GPA of 3.0 in college prep (CPC) courses.

3. A minimum SAT-V of 530 (or 23 ACT English)

4. A minimum SAT-M of 530 (or 22 ACT Math).

5. For high school juniors, an FI of 2700.

For high school seniors, an FI of 2600.

6. For high school juniors, completion of 10th grade.

For high school seniors, completion of 11th grade.

7. The recommendation and approval of the high school counselor or principal.

Rationale:

The motion simplifies and lowers the admission requirements for these programs. Our current requirements are so high that many high schools have no students eligible for early attendance. The complexity of the current rules is a barrier to student entry and the revised standards are still significantly higher than our regular freshman admission requirements.

Here are the current admission requirements for the early attendance programs.
