Motion on Transient/ARCHE Requirements

Motion:

Section 1

Effective Spring 2001, GSU students who wish to take courses at another institution as a transient (a.k.a., out-going transients) must have the higher of a GSU cumulative GPA of 2.0 or the GSU cumulative GPA required to enroll in the GSU course which is most similar to the course the student wishes to take as a transient.

Section 2

Effective Spring 2001, GSU students who wish to take courses at another institution as a Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education (ARCHE) (a.k.a., out-going ARCHE students) must have the higher of a GSU cumulative GPA of 2.0 or the GSU cumulative GPA required to enroll in the GSU course which is most similar to the course the student wishes to take as a transient.

Section 3

Each college is encouraged to review the GPA it requires of out-going transient and ARCHE graduate students.

Rationale:

To enroll in some GSU courses, e.g., teacher education and some business courses, a GPA higher than 2.0 is required. Currently, a GSU student without the higher GPA can take these courses as a transient or ARCHE student and transfer the credit back to GSU. This seems unfair.

Nothing in this motion changes the rules for in-coming transients or in-coming ARCHE students.
