Dr. Imad Moustapha, Syria’s Ambassador to the United States since March 2004, spoke to Political Science faculty and students at a February 10, 2006 colloquium on “U.S.-Syrian Relations.” Ambassador Moustapha, who holds a PhD from the University of Surrey (UK) and formerly served as Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Damascus, gave his country’s position on controversial issues in current bilateral relations: e.g., Iraq, Syria's alleged involvement in the assassination of Lebanon's former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, and worldwide Muslim protests over controversial Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.
