Admissions
Important Application Deadlines:
M.A. deadline has been extended until May 15 for Fall 2013 admissions.
Applications for both the Ph.D and M.A. degrees are accepted for Fall semester only.
February 1 for admission with assistantship
March 1 for admission
Detailed information about application procedures can be found on the website for the Graduate Office of the College of Arts and Sciences. Please do not forward any application materials directly to the department. Doing so will delay the processing of your application.
To complete an application for either the Ph.D. or M.A. program, please click here. You will then be able to complete your application online, uploading your statement of purpose and your writing sample. You will also be able to enter the email addresses of your recommenders, who will then receive a link to complete their letters of support online. Please note, however, that you will need to have your GRE scores (and, if applicable, TOEFL scores) forwarded to the Graduate Office directly from ETS and that you will also need to have your transcripts forwarded directly from your previous institutions.
In addition to the requirements of the Graduate Office, all applicants must submit:
Letters of Recommendation:
* MA applicants should submit two letters of recommendation
* PhD applicants should submit three letters of recommendation
Statement of Purpose:
* Please provide a concise statement of your research interests and how GSU’s Political Science Department will help you meet your career and educational goals (be as specific as possible). Applicants should also speak to how their research interests align with those of the faculty in the Department.
Writing Sample: GRE Scores (and TOEFL Scores if applicable):
* Applicants should submit a writing sample that provides a good indication of their analytical and writing skills.
*Please observe the deadlines for submitting GRE scores (and TOEFL Scores if applicable). Do not expect to take the GREs and be admitted to the program before the scores arrive and are processed. Also, do not expect your application for a particular semester to be processed in time for admission if you do not meet the published deadlines for all other application materials.
