RSA Scholars Program As
of August 2004, the Program for Rehabilitation Leadership offers scholarships
to students pursuing master’s degrees in Rehabilitation Counseling
at Georgia State University. This unique scholarship
program provides full tuition, fees, and a monthly expense stipend
to students enrolled in the CORE-accredited Rehabilitation
Counseling Program of the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services.
Scholars commit to working in the public vocational rehabilitation program
following graduation, whereupon they embark upon rewarding careers supporting
individuals with disabilities in achieving meaningful employment and community
independence. DetailsA grant provided through the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) Training Program provides financial support to students seeking a masters degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. This Program is a joint effort between the Program for Rehabilitation Leadership of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and the Department of Counseling & Psychological Services, College of Education. Scholarships include: Tuition and fees (in-state graduate tuition rate [$161 per hour] x 48 hours for masters program) (fees = $356 per semester X 5 semesters for full time masters program); stipend for books, supplies, transportation ($1,250 per semester X 5 semesters); and potential support for professional conference attendance. There are 12 full-time student Scholarships per year. Application to the Scholarship Program must be completed on an annual basis. Students who accept these funds are expected to work 2 years for each year of scholarship support in the State/Federal Vocational Rehabilitation system upon graduation (does not need to be in Georgia) or in affiliated programs that have a relationship with the State/Federal VR system. The course of study is not substantially different from the rehabilitation counselor training that is not financially supported. In fact, all of the classes are the same. However, scholarship recipients will be expected to participate in coordinated field, practicum, and internship experiences within state Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agencies, and will work closely with VR mentors in student courses and activities. Course Information – Information regarding the program of study and a Guidebook detailing relevant information about the Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling can be found at: http://education.gsu.edu/cps/M.S.%20Rehab%20Counseling.htm
