Ethics for Rehabilitation Service Providers

This on-line training seminar focuses on Ethics for service providers in the field of rehabilitation. This course is designed to deliver 10 hours of Continuing Rehabilitation Counseling credit. Throughout the course, examples and illustrations are taken from the field of rehabilitation, from the perspective of those employed by the State Vocational Rehabilitation system as well as those serving in community rehabilitation programs. The course schedule includes both on-line “class” time (for web lectures and web based content materials) and on-line interaction for students (bulletin boards and discussion groups). The schedule typically consists of five weeks – one hour spent on class materials and interaction accompanied by a weekly activity that involves a minimum of one hour of off-line homework/activity. Assignments are submitted for review and approval by the course facilitator. At the conclusion of the five-week course and upon review of all homework activities, each learner will be mailed a certificate of completion indicating the hours of CRC credit earned.

Course content includes the following:

  • Defining ethics – what are ethics, where do they come from, how we use them
  • Understanding the Code of Ethics in your field – review of the Code of Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors
  • Review of ethical decision making models – guidelines and models for ethical decision making in the field of rehabilitation
  • Case studies of ethical decision making and outcomes – How do ethics impact service providers? How do ethics impact consumers?
