We will be hearing from advanced PhD students from American Government and Comparative/International Politics about how they studied and prepared for comps (and how they did).

Learn tactics, timing, and how to answer the questions.

Ga Tech: Thomas Friedman speech on Nov. 7

Thomas Friedman, world-renowned author and journalist for The New York Times, is a late-breaking addition to the College of Management's fall IMPACT Speaker Series. He will appear at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, in LeCraw Auditorium.

The weekly IMPACT series provides Georgia Tech students, alumni, and the Atlanta community an opportunity to network and learn from high-tech entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and notable business leaders.

A three-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Friedman joined The New York Times in 1981 as a financial reporter specializing in OPEC- and oil-related news and later served as the chief diplomatic, White House, and international economics correspondents. He has traveled hundreds of thousands of miles reporting the Middle East conflict, the end of the cold war, U.S. domestic politics and foreign policy, international economics, and the worldwide impact of the terrorist threat.

His foreign-affairs column, which appears twice a week in the Times, is syndicated to 700 other newspapers worldwide, and his books include From Beirut to Jerusalem (1989), The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization (1999), Longitudes and Attitudes: Exploring the World After September 11 (2001), and The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century (2005).

Seating for Friedman's appearance is limited. Additional access to the event will be available via large LCD screens in the common areas outside of the auditorium and in several large classrooms nearby. The event is free and open to the public.top

Joined by Jimmy Carter Library and Museum Executive Director Jay Hakes, Mrs. Carter will elaborate on highlights of the museum's unique "First Ladies" exhibit, open Oct. 22 - Jan.15 (www.jimmycarterlibrary.gov).
