School Health Program for Registered Nurses:
Sponsored by Georgia State University and the Georgia Partnership for School Health. This course is offered through distance learning for continuing education.

Course Description:
This course encompasses basic information for nurse employed in a school setting. The goal of this course is to orient newly employed school nurses. This includes nurses previously employe in other settings who are new to the school nurse role.


Upon completion, participants should be able to:
1. Identify the roles and functions of the school nurse.
2. Identify common and chronic childhood illnesses.
3. Know policies and procedures for school health programs.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of special needs children.
5. Demonstrate awareness of legal ramifications of the school nurse role.
6. Make approprate assessments, screenings and referrals.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of data managerment and assessment tools.
8. Identify available resources in the community.
