  1. HOW DO I DECLARE PSYCHOLOGY AS A MAJOR?
    First, you must be advised by Academic Assistance of the College of Arts and Sciences (418 General Classroom Building; 404-413-5000), and then by the psychology undergraduate advisor on the 11th floor Urban Life Bldg
  2. WHEN CAN I DECLARE PSYCHOLOGY AS MY MAJOR?
    You can declare it at any time but it may effect your graduation date if you are changing majors.
  3. REALLY WANT TO GET MORE EXPERIENCE AS AN UNDERGRADUATE. HOW CAN I ACCOMPLISH THIS?
    There are several clubs and programs for Psychology majors: The Honors Program, the Major in a Year Program, Psi Chi, Presidential Assistantships, and Research and Applied Practica. NOTE: Begin looking into what opportunities exist in both Research and Applied Practica NO LATER THAN THE FIRST SEMESTER JUNIOR YEAR.

Course and Curriculum Questions

  1. WHAT ARE THE PREREQUISITES FOR A COURSE?
    The 1000- 2000 level courses do not have prerequisites. However, all of the 3000-4000 level courses require that you have taken Psyc 1101 (Intro to General Psychology) EXCEPT 3510 (which requires one college math) and 3530, which requires 3510. NO COURSE CAN BE TAKEN CONCURRENTLY WITH ITS PREREQUISITE. Further, many of the other courses require that you have taken 1101 as well as both Psyc 3510 (Psychological Statistics) and or Psyc 3530 (Principles and Methods of Psychological Investigation). IMPORTANT: NOT ALL COURSES ARE OFFERED EACH SEMESTER. PLAN AHEAD, TO AVOID DELAYING YOUR GRADUATION.
  2. WHAT HAPPENS IF I REGISTER FOR A COURSE WITHOUT HAVING FULFILLED THE PREREQUISITE?
    You will be given notice and an opportunity to appeal. If you have not successfully appealed by the appeal date, you will be administratively withdrawn from the class and your tuition refunded. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.
  3. HOW DO I KNOW IF A COURSE I TOOK AT ANOTHER COLLEGE HAS OR WILL TRANSFER?
    Obtain a copy of the Psychology Undergraduate Quick Reference Handbook from the Psychology Department, 11th Floor Urban Life or visit the Psychology Undergraduate Website at www.gsu.edu/~wwwpug/TransferApprovals.htm. If your school/course is not listed, discuss the problem with Academic Assistance in the College of Arts & Sciences (404) 651-2291.
  4. HOW DO I PETITION FOR A COURSE TO BE TRANSFERRED?
    Fill out a Course Transfer Petition form available in the psychology office, 11th Floor Urban Life.

Grading

  1. CAN I GET A GRADE CHANGED?
    Students are encouraged to first contact the professor of the course to review coursework to in order to determine if a grade change is proper.
  2. WHERE CAN I FIND THE GRADE APPEAL POLICY?

  3. WILL I BE AUTOMATICALLY DROPPED IF I DON'T ATTEND A CLASS?
    NO!!! Professors are not obligated to drop students for non-attendance; therefore, ALL STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DROPPING THE CLASS USING STANDARD REGISTRATION PROCEDURES FOUND IN THE SCHEDULE OF CLASSES ON THE GSU WEBSITE. FAILURE TO DROP THE CLASS IN BY THE MIDPOINT DEADLINE WILL RESULT IN THE GRADE OF AN "F" OR "WF" IN THE CLASS.
