My research program focuses on basic and applied research in the Laboratory of Health Promotion Research and Intervention. Specifically, my research program concentrates on HIV/AIDS prevention among high-risk African American men, particularly men who engage in same-sex behavior. Given their high incidence of HIV infection, this vulnerable population remains substantially underrepresented in HIV behavioral and social science research. My research program attempts to understand the determinants of high-risk sexual behavior and the components of behavioral interventions that are most effective to reduce HIV transmission.

Also, my research program includes studies on the interactive effects of sexual prejudice, masculine ideology and violence toward gay men. These studies will examine how socio-cultural and psychosocial factors, especially sexual prejudice and masculine ideology, affect the perpetration of antigay violence.
