The following is an outline of the requirements for the Community Concentration.

    1. All required courses in Area 1 for the General program (click here for general program requirements)
    2. Required courses in Area 2 (Upper Division courses-9 hours)
      1. Social Psychology (Psyc 4020) (3) (Psyc 1101 is a prerequisite for this course and may not be taken concurrently with it.)
      2. Community Psychology (Psyc 4510) (3) (Psyc 1101 is a prerequisite for this course and may not be taken concurrently with it.)
      3. One additional course from Group B (3) (Psyc 1101, 3010 and 3030 are prerequisites for all courses in this group and may not be taken simultaneously with any of them.)
        • Cognitive Psychology (Psyc 4100)
        • Physiological Psychology (Psyc 4110)
        • Learning (Psyc 4120)
        • Sensation & Perception (Psyc 4130)
    3. Required course in Area 3 (Psychology Program-12 hours)
      1. People in Organizations (Psyc 4240) OR Environmental Psychology (Psyc 4520) (3) (Psyc 1101 is a prerequisite for all courses in this group and may not be taken concurrently with any of them.)
      2. Introduction to African-American Psychology (Psyc 3520) OR Psychology and Women
        (Psyc 4620) (3) (Psyc 1101 is a prerequisite for all courses in this group and may not be taken concurrently with any of them.)
      3. Practicum in Psychology 4770 (Applied/Service Practicum) (3) (Psyc 3110 is a prerequisite for this course and may not be taken concurrently with it. Psyc 3110 should be taken no later than first semester junior year.) (Psyc 4760 Research Practicum WILL NOT fulfill this requirement)
      4. Any upper division psychology course (

Recommended Timeline for Community Concentration (After all University Core and Psychology Lower Division and Basic requirements have been taken)

Junior year:

First Semester:

      • Take Psyc 3010 Statistics (this is a prerequisite to 3030)
      • Take Psyc 3110 (Psychology of Interpersonal Behavior) (A must for Community concentration students who have to take Psyc 4770 Applied/Service Practica)

Second semester:

    • Take Psyc 3030 (Principles and Methods of Psychological Investigation)
    • Take Psyc 4020 (Social)

Summer semester:

    • Take one of the following: PSYC 4100 (Cognitive), PSYC 4110 (Physiological), PSYC 4120 (Learning), Psyc 4130 (Sensation & Perception)

Senior year:

First semester:

      • Take one of the following: Psyc 3520 (Introduction to African American Psychology), Psyc 4620 (Psychology and Women)
      • Take Psyc 4770 Applied/Service Practica (Psyc 3110 is a prerequisite) Students may take up to (6) six credits, for example, (3) three Fall semester and (3) three Spring semester or (2) two Fall, (2)two Spring and (2) two Summer. No more than 3 hours can be taken per semester.
      • Take any other psychology course at the 3000 level or above (electives)

Second semester:

      • Take one of the following: PSYC 4240 (People in Organizations), PSYC 4520 (Environmental)
      • Take any other psychology course at the 3000 level or above (electives)
