Refresher SCUBA experience

This class is for people who have not been diving in the past year.
Those who cannot show proof of diving in the past 5 years will not be
permitted to take a refresher course from GSU. Both academic and water
skills will be reviewed and evaluated. GSU will provide BC, regulator,
tanks, weights and a workbook. The NAUI workbook must be completed prior
to the start of the refresher course. The course will include: taking the NAUI scuba diver test, review of results, review and practice of scuba diver skills. Requirements for successful completion of the refresher course are: score at least 75% on written test and
demonstrate all water skills in accordance with NAUI standards. Any additional hours needed to achieve success in the refresher course
will be at an additional charge. Participant must be a member of the SRC
or a participant on a GSU scuba trip.

SCUBA Assisting
|
For those people who are certified in SCUBA who would like to assist with current SCUBA classes. All assistants in training must participate in the skills review, which will be held on the third night of the listed SCUBA class. If you have not been diving within the year, you must participate in a refresher class, at your own cost, prior to assisting. There is no charge for assisting. Assisters may accrue credit hours to use for class discounts.

Free Diving or Snorkeling
|
Skills will include use of fins, mask and snorkel clearing. Participants must be able to swim.

| NAUI Scuba Diver
|
This entry level class prepares you for your certification dives as a SCUBA diver. Prerequisites include a 50 ft underwater swim, a 9 minute non stop swim of 300 yds, a survival float for 10 minutes, and a snorkel 440 yds without stopping conducted the first night of class.
Swimsuits, note-taking materials, towels, a container for contacts, and a lock for a locker must be brought to the first class. The SCUBA diver candidate provides mask, snorkel, booties, fins and textbooks. Current GSU students may use GSU snorkeling equipment for this class only. GSU will provide all the SCUBA equipment for all participants. Non-GSU students should purchase snorkel equipment after the first class. A minimum of 7 of the 8 classes must be attended and the first and last classes are mandatory. Open water training dives on the Marathon, Florida Keys trip are required for certification. Non-members MUST be certified on the GSU Marathon trip. NO REFERRALS WILL BE ISSUED TO NON-MEMBERS. The cost for the Marathon, Florida Keys open water training dives is additional.

TRIPS - Fall 2009
|
Marathon, Florida
This certification/ pleasure trip consists of 6 days and 5 nights. Transportation, lodging, and 2 boat trips are included. The Key Colonies Beach Motel is located on the beach and has a refrigerator in each room. Trip price is based on 3 people per room.

Returns: Saturday, December 19, midnight
