Staying Safe Outside
This instructional classroom session will prepare you to spend time outdoors staying safe while having fun! Whether you hike, snow ski, backpack, horseback ride, mountain bike or just walk in your neighborhood or spectate team sports in outdoor settings, this class will give you information on how to stay warm and dry, hydrated and fed and protected from the sun and bugs. We will provide information on where to get the best deals on clothing and equipment, how to get in shape for outdoor activities and how to gather resource information about destinations.

Lighten Your Load for Backpacking!

It's the hot topic in the world of backpacking these days - how to reduce the weight in your pack-but still be safe and relatively comfortable. Join us for this show and tell session to get some ideas, learn some tricks and see what new gear and clothing is available. Ryan will also address how to pack light while being a tall man who needs big, long gear!

      scenic" Chattanooga River to camp in a primitive site. F

Bald River Falls
Novice and experienced backpackers should join Jerry for this moderate six mile trail that follows one of the most beautiful rivers in Tennessee. Enjoy several waterfalls and the sights and sounds of spring. Trout fishing is possible with a license.

DAY HIKES

Chattahoochee River Loop Trail
This moderate four mile loop trail just outside the perimeter will amaze you as you discover a beautiful natural environment amid this major metropolis, yet you will feel as if you have surely traveled farther away. This trail in the National Recreation Area will find you viewing shoals from he river bluff overlook. Bring binoculars for birding.

Bear Creek Trail
This seven mile moderate loop trail near Ellijay, Ga. will allow participants to escape the busy city to enjoy hiking amid rhododendron and hemlock trees and the largest Gennett Poplar tree in the forest measuring nearly 18 feet in circumference.

Blackrock Mountain State Park
This moderate to strenuous seven mile hike will provide you with a beautiful mountain get-away weekend experience. Enjoy great vista views interspersed along dense forest trails.

Sweetwater Creek State Park - A walk on the wild - but QUIET side!
Ever feel like city life is much too busy, noisy and stressful? Then join Tonja to discover this peaceful tract of wilderness only minutes from bustling downtown Atlanta. Follow Tonja's lead by traversing the trails in silence so as to immerse yourself in the whole outdoor experience leaving behind that crazy city life, allowing yourself to feel relaxed and rejuvenated. We will hike 4-6 miles on the easy to moderate trails.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

Discover another great hiking area just outside the perimeter while learning about Georgia's Civil War history. This moderate to strenuous 4-6 mile hikes will provide some options for hiking up which will require good physical condition-but not as much as if you were pulling a canon like those brave solider's!

Panther Creek

Enjoy this seven mile round-trip hike that follows along Panther Creek in North Georgia. This moderate trail will dazzle you with amazing rock out-crops, rhododendron thickets and the constant sound of rushing water. You will find it hard to leave the lunch spot at the beautiful waterfall.

Outdoor Climbing Trip
This one day trip is open to all levels of climbing. Beginners will have the opportunity to learn basic climbing skills while experienced climbers can try new routes and learn new skills. Belay certification on the indoor climbing wall is required.
