International
Journal of Comparative Psychology
Instructions
to Authors
DESCRIPTION.
The International Journal of Comparative Psychology (IJCP) publishes
studies on the evolution and development of animal behavior, including
humans. Articles based on experimental or descriptive research procedures,
carried out in laboratory, semi-natural, or natural settings, and
involving mechanistic, developmental, functional-adaptive, or evolutionary
theoretical approaches are welcome. Articles may include a single
study or a series of related studies. Papers developing original
theoretical models of behavior and brief reports not exceeding 4000
words (including references) will also be considered for publication.
Articles reviewing the literature in a particular area of research
will be occasionally accepted for consideration when the author
has demonstrated significant contributions to the topic under review.
APA
FORMAT.
Prepare your manuscripts following APA format. Consult the last
edition of the APA Publication Manual (2001). A quick reference
to recent changes may be found in the APA web site: http://www.apastyle.org.
SUBMISSION.
Manuscripts can be submitted either in print (four copies, APA format),
or electronically (PDF or Microsoft Word files, including figures).
In either case, the IJCP adheres to APA format (see inside back
cover for further details). Electronic submissions are encouraged
to reduce the publication lag. Send your contribution to Stan Kuczaj
(s.kuczaj@usm.edu).
MANUSCRIPT.
The manuscript should have a cover page with the full title, author(s)
name(s), and institutional affiliation(s). Indicate explicitly the
name, address, FAX number, and e-mail address of the author with
whom the Editor may correspond concerning the article. Most of the
review process is done via e-mail, so including an e-mail address
is of considerable importance. In a cover letter include the names
and e-mail addresses of three (3) potential reviewers for your article.
Indicate also whether you prefer anonymity in the review process.
ETHICAL
ISSUES.
It is recommended that authors follow current APA ethical guidelines
(see http://www.apa.org/ethics/code2002.html).
Especially relevant are the guidelines about research and publication,
care and use of animals, and treatment of human participants in
research. It is expected that researchers comply with these norms
independently of, and in addition to, compliance with other regulations
enforced locally by governmental agencies.
ACCEPTED
MANUSCRIPTS. Upon final acceptance, the author(s) will be required
to send a computer file (in disk or as an e-mail attachment) prepared
in Microsoft Word. Figures must be prepared in Microsoft Excel.
The articles abstract will be immediately posted in the IJCP
web site. Authors will be provided with a PDF file with the final
version for electronic distribution of their paper. Additionally,
reprints may be purchased at the time of galley proof corrections.
