Communications Committee

Meeting Minutes - April 24, 2009 10:00 a.m.

In attendance: Gretchen Cannon, Ann Claycombe, Rene Presti, David Smart, Colleen Blanchard

Committee Chair: Greetings and approval of last meeting minutes. All approved minutes will be forwarded to Susan Vogtner.

Discussion: The Employee Spotlight Program, highlighting a member of the University community on the Staff Council website, is an important function of the committee. The Spotlight will be updated monthly to semi-monthly depending on time of placement. The committee is sensitive to issues of diversity, and will work to insure that the Spotlight candidates reflect the diversity within our institution. Ideas for future Spotlight candidates include; individuals from building services, facilities, PAWS, Campus Police, and digital aquarium. Ultimately, the individual candidates will be chosen by the assigned committee interviewer. Upcoming interview assignments are as follows:

Randy – April/May (just completed)

Gretchen – June

Ann – July

Rene – August

Colleen – September

Committee Goals:

1. Arrange guest speaker(s) for Staff Council meeting/retreat.

2. Raise awareness of Staff Council – possibly a quarterly column in the Villager

3. Continue the Spotlight program

4. Maintain and upgrade Staff Council website as need and opportunities arise.

Next meeting: May 29^th Homework – each committee member will review content of the website and give feedback/ideas for improvement. Also, each member will identify areas of the site they would be willing to maintain/grow.
