  1. Meeting was called to order at 10:00 and October 14, 1999 minutes were approved.

  2. The revised by-laws from the October 1999 meeting were approved.

  3. Election of officers will be done at the June 16, 2000 meeting. The Nomination Committee will consist of the following USGSC Members: Bill Filtz, Peggy Inman, Cheryl Harris, and Ann Marie Smith.

  4. There has been no response in regards to the health insurance letter that was written to Mr. Dunning. A proposal from the BOR regarding insurance changes was distributed. The BOR meeting on healthcare will be March 7 and 8. Some of the USGSC members are going to try to attend the meeting in Atlanta. Also, it was recommended that staff employees write a letter to the Governor on his/her own behalf. In other words, employees are not to write on behalf of their institution. They are to individually write to the Governor and their Legislator. This message will be relayed to the constituents at each USGSC member's home institution. There is no guarantee these letters will change the Governor's mind but at least he will know how the staff employees feel.

  5. There was a letter written to Mr. Daniel in regards to the pay raise delay. There has been no response. To date, a reason has not been given as to why there will be a delay in the raises.

  6. There is a proposed bill in the legislature for retirement from the University System of Georgia after 25 years of service without penalty. Most likely, this bill will suffer the same fate as the others before it. It probably will not be approved.

  7. The 7th Annual USGSC will be hosted by SPSU in October. The proposed agenda for the conference was distributed. SPSU mailed a letter to each University President asking for him/her to allow at least 2 representatives from his/her school to attend the conference. Registration forms will be online. If registered by September 15, the registration fee is $35.00. If registered after this date, the registration fee will be $40.00. SPSU is looking forward to a very exciting conference and they invite all to attend. They will be looking for you in October. Information regarding the conference will be mailed to the Staff Council Representative of each institution.

KSU is to host the USGSC in 2001. This will be the 10th anniversary of the University System Staff Meetings. KSU hosted the very first conference back in 1991. Organization for this celebration will begin this summer.

State University of West Georgia will host the conference in 2002. Coastal Georgia Community College will investigate the possibility of hosting the conference in 2003.

USGSC is going to post conference history on the web. This will probably be a link from the GSU web page. Each institution needs to contact Mary Nell Stone at GSU with information regarding past conferences.

  8. The next meeting will be 9:30, June 16 at Macon State College, which is now located off exit 3 on interstate 475.

Just a note: When info is distributed to the GASTEERERS list serve, please try to respond. Your opinion is of great value and we need responses from more than just two or three people each time. We are one family not just individual schools.

Meeting Adjourned.
