CALENDAR FOR 2009-2010 SENATE YEAR FACULTY
ELECTIONS
In order to have the Nominations Report available for approval at the
Senate's 2009-2010 organizational meeting, departments/units need to hold
their elections at the beginning of Spring semester. The
first day of classes for Spring semester is Monday, January 5. The
Nominations Report,
which contains the committee assignments for the newly elected and
returning Senators, must be approved at the first Senate meeting of the
2009-2010 year. That meeting will be held on April 16, 2009.
December 29 Voting lists and materials are sent
to Departments, with copies to Deans' Offices, by Senate Office.
January 5
Jan. 5 - February 12 Departments hold Senate elections.
February 13 Election results, along with Senators'
committee preferences, are due to Deans' Offices from Departments.
February 20 Election results, along with Senators'
committee preferences, are due to Senate Office from the Deans'
Offices.
Sometime between February 23 and February 27 Executive Committee
meeting held and
the Nominations Committee is appointed. After the meeting, names are
reported to Mary Nell who contacts nominees to confirm that they are
willing to serve. Once all confirmations are finalized, working materials
are delivered to the committee members.
Appointed Senators should also be selected by the Executive
Committee at the same meeting so that their names can be submitted to
Nominations Committee and their committee preferences can be included in
the initial report.
March 2 - 6
Mid-March First meeting of newly appointed
Nominations Committee - committee elects chair and begins working on
putting together Senate committees using previously delivered
materials.
Mid-March - March 27 Nominations Committee keeps refining
report,
Mary Nell updates each draft until document is finalized.
Sometime during the week of March 29 Executive
Committee meets -- one of the agenda items is the
consideration of the finalized Nominations Report.
No later than April 6 Approved Nominations Report
submitted to Mary Nell to be
copied in preparation for distribution to Senate.
April 9All Senate materials must be delivered to the
2009-2010 Senate, including final copy of Nominations Report.
April 16Senate meeting - first one of the 2009-2010 Senate
year. 2009-2010 Executive Committee elected.
