We do not have a terminal Master's degree program. We admit students with only a Bachelor’s degree into our Joint MA/PhD program. In this program, students earn their Master’s degree after two years of course work and successful completion of a Master’s thesis. They then continue directly into the PhD program without reapplying. After completion of the MA, students are not required to remain to complete the PhD. Although most students do so, some choose to continue with their PhD work elsewhere or move on to other pursuits entirely.
We admit students who have completed a Master's degree in Sociology elsewhere directly into our PhD-Only program. We will also consider applications to our PhD-Only program from students with Master’s degrees in other social science fields. Students with Master’s degrees outside the social sciences are invited to apply to our Joint MA/PhD program.
