Non Degree Status

Non-degree status is provided for students who wish to take a limited number of graduate courses related to their academic interests or for professional needs, but not leading to an advanced degree. Admission is for a maximum of 12 semester hours (or 4 graduate courses) or two academic semesters, whichever comes first. Applicants are admitted to non-degree status at the option of the department and only if space and facilities are available. Admission to non-degree status does not guarantee admission to a degree program in the future, and courses taken in this status will generally not apply toward any subsequent degree.

Those interested in Non-Degree status must submit:

1. A completed Application for Graduate Study (including the application fee) and the supplementary Department of Sociology application form.
2. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) verbal, quantitative, and analytical scores.
3. TOEFL scores (if applicable).
4. Official copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
5. A list of the courses to be taken.
