Research and Teaching Interests

Dr. Donnelly received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Florida in 1990, and completed an NIMH post-doctoral fellowship in Family Violence Training at the Family Research Laboratory, University of New Hampshire, in 1993.  Presently, she is Associate Professor of Sociology and Senior Faculty Associate for the Advancement of Women at GSU.  A faculty member since 1993, she is an applied sociologist, with research interests encompassing victims of interpersonal violence, culturally competent violence prevention programming, involuntary celibacy, and civil rights in Northern Ireland.  Dr. Donnelly’s most recent publications include:

Dr. Donnelly leads a study abroad program to Northern Ireland each May, and is a former visiting faculty member at Queen’s University in Belfast.  She offers a yearly freshman learning community on Race, Religion, and Conflict, and teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes.  Most recently, she has offered Sexual and Intimate Violence, Gender, and Family Diversity.  She is active in the University Senate, and works with groups nationally to address violence against women.
