Research and Teaching Interests:

Dr. Langenkamp joined the Sociology Department in 2008 after completing her Ph.D. and a postdoctoral fellowship at University of Texas in Austin. Her dissertation uses school transitions as a way to understand paths of educational opportunity and analyzes how changing schools affects the academic trajectories and social adjustment of adolescents.

Langenkamp’s research explores transitions between major societal institutions and processes of inequality within those institutions. Current projects include: 1) investigating circumstances where students entering a new school are successful and where they are vulnerable to failure and social isolation, with a particular interest in racial, ethnic and gender differences; 2) exploring how social networks and community organizations can promote postsecondary access. Dr. Langenkamp conducts research utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methodology.
