Interns make their own arrangements with the agencies/organizations where they decide to do internships. The following database serves as a list of approved sites from which interns may choose places to contact.

Many sites want to interview potential interns before agreeing to take them on. Sometimes it can take weeks to arrange for an internship. Students admitted to the internship program should located and secure a site well before the first week of classes.

Another resource you may utilize is University Career Services, which lists internships, and also offers help with resumes and mock interviews. Internship sites that you find through UCS must be approved (as described in the next paragraph) if they are not on our list of approved sites.

It is also possible to choose a site that is not on our list, but you must submit a request to Dr. Wendy Simonds (by email), in which you describe the site, what your duties at this site will be, and the sociological significance of the work you will do. Dr. Simonds will your request to the Sociology Department Undergraduate Committee. Please bear in mind that the point of this internship is to give students experience with non-profit organizations and social service agencies; the undergraduate committee will decide whether an alternative site fits with these goals of the program. Please seek approval for sites at least two weeks before the semester begins.
