Undergraduate Advisors | Graduate Advisors
All advisors can assist students with degree planning, reviewing degree requirements, make course recommendations, and perform degree audits. They are also available to discuss academic performance, hardships, registration issues, withdrawing, transfer credit, holds, and University policies.
For students with 42 credit hours or more, your department advisor is available to discuss internships, career planning, course overflows, authorizations for restricted courses, study abroad opportunities, graduate school planning , and substitutions/adjustments for Areas F & G.

Brian is the academic advisor to undergraduate students and advises them on plans of study, career plannning, and graduate admission requirements. He is also responsible for administering the undergraduate internship program and maintaining the department website. Brian has been working in Academic Advising for 4 years and joined the department of Sociology in December 2008. He has been with Georgia State for 9 years as he attended GSU as an undergraduate and recieved a dual degree in Human Resource Development and Sociology.
Prior to joining the department, Brian was an advisor in the Georgia State Student Advisement Center. While in the center, he advised freshmen/sophomore students, coordinated the advising component of the University's orientation program, and piloted an advising-in-the-classroom initiative.
Brian is an active member of the National Academic Advising Association and regularly presents at conferences. His professional iterests include technology in advising, advising theory, and administration. In 2007, Brian was selected by the National Academic Advising Association to receive the Outstanding New Advisor Award.

Dr. Simonds is an Associate Professor of Sociology and is the Director of the Undergraduate Program. She serves as chair of the Undergraduate Committee and primary advisor to the Chair of the Department on the undergraduate program.
For students with 42 credit hours or more, your college advisor is available to discuss registration overloads (carrying an excess of 18 semester hours), transient requests, and substitutions/adjustments for Areas A-E, H, and residency hours.
