Research and Teaching Interests

Dr. Kemp currently holds a joint appointment in the Gerontology Institute and the Department of Sociology. She arrived at GSU in 2005 as a visiting assistant professor after having completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Western Ontario. She received her Ph.D. from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Much of Dr. Kemp’s research is related to aging or family life. Her primary interests include: intergenerational relationships; later life couples; work-life balance; long-term care; ethnicity and aging; gender, sexuality and aging; and planning for later life. Some of her recent publications appear in Journal of Family Issues, Journal of Aging Studies, Ageing and Society and Canadian Journal of Sociology. Dr. Kemp teaches Aging and Society, Families and Society, Seminar in Gerontology, Qualitative Gerontology, and Ethnicity and Aging.
