Romney Norwood is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology. Dr. Norwood received a dual-title Ph.D. in Sociology and Demography from Pennsylvania State University. She is affiliated with both the Race and Urban Studies and the
Family and Life Course specialty areas in the GSU Department of Sociology. Dr. Norwood teaches courses on urban sociology; power, wealth and inequality; social problems; and race relations.
The primary focus of Dr. Norwood's research is poverty and inequality in urban areas. For the last five years, she has investigated the impact of welfare reform through her work with the Welfare, Children, and Families: A Three-City Study res
earch team. Currently, Dr. Norwood is examining the role that social capital plays in determining employment quality for minorities in urban areas and whether there are differential returns to social capital based on race. She also continues to examine th
e internal migration patterns of poor populations in the United States and the prevalence of health protective behavior among minorities. |
