The undergraduate program in sociology is designed to create an environment that stimulates intellectual curiosity and encourages creative thought. The department offers a wide variety of courses in order to provide students with a solid background in their discipline. The department works to promote interaction among students and other social scientists, both within and outside the university.

Students can complete a General Program in Sociology or specialize in one of five concentrations: Family, Race and Urban Studies, Gender and Sexuality, Gerontology, and Social Studies Education . Within the specializations, however, there is a fair amount of flexibility for students to pursue topics of interest. Click the links for Faculty and Course Descriptions, and you will get an idea of the variety of topics that can be studied. Click the link to the Sociology Club for information about the extracurricular activites available to majors
