WelcomeGeorgia State is committed to being a good neighbor in Atlanta, to providing the highest quality learning opportunities for its students and to conducting research that increases knowledge in the urban setting. The Neighborhood Collaborative was initiated in 1999, and is a developing concept and unit within the Office of Provost Ron Henry. Its intention is to facilitate mutually beneficial relationships between Atlanta community residents and the faculty, staff, and students from GSU. The NC works to create partnerships that build capacity among community groups and organizations while offering the university opportunities for community based research and student experiential learning. The strategic plan approved by President Patton acknowledges the interdependence of GSU and the community in which we are located. The NC mission is another strategy in the structure GSU is using to bring the city and the university into productive relationships. The Atlanta Project (TAP), started in 1992 by former President Jimmy Carter, was transferred to GSU in August of 1999 to be the first piece of the NC. TAP continues to bring people together to plan for problem solving. TAP seeks out willing and eager community groups to partner with faculty and students to create new energy and resources for improving the quality of life in this city.
