Connie B. Sampson
Chief
Sampson was hired as Director/Chief of Police February 1996.
She
brings to the Georgia State University Police Department over
24 years of Law Enforcement and Management Experience.
She
holds a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia
State University and a Master of Public Administration from
Brenau University.
Chief
Sampson has been recognized by local and national law enforcement
organizations for exemplary performance of duty. Some of her
local awards include:
Chief
Sampson came to Georgia State University Police Department well-prepared
for her job as Chief. She previously served as Assistant Police
Chief for the University of Georgia Police Department and as Interim
Director of Public Safety at Albany State College. Her career
began as a patrol officer at the Athens Police Department in Athens,
Georgia in 1975.
In
July 1996, Chief Sampson was the Law Enforcement Venue Commander
for the Badminton and GoalBall Venue located at Georgia State
University for the 1996 Centennial Summer Olympic Games. She
was in charge of 125 Law Enforcement Personnel from Federal,
State and Local Law Enforcement agencies. The success of the
Venue was attributable to the hard work of everyone involved
including Chief Sampson and the State Olympic Law Enforcement
Staff.
