Mission Statement
The Division of
Finance and Administration contributes to Georgia State University's
teaching, research, and public service mission by providing the university
community and the institution's constituents with quality services in
a supportive and cost effective manner. The Division provides specialized
expertise in the stewardship of human resources, financial assets, property,
and facilities and in the assurance of a safe environment for faculty,
staff, students, and visitors to our campus.
Overview
of Goals
In carrying out
this mission, it is the responsibility of the division's staff to:
- provide timely,
accurate and relevant analyses and information that facilitate effective
decision-making
- maintain processes
that will ensure the university's compliance with policies, regulations
and laws
- lead and support
long-term University continuous process review and improvement (including
resource allocation)
- assist Georgia
State in creating a positive impact in the community by providing
operationally efficient and aesthetically pleasing facilities, a safe
environment, effective community programs, and employees as university
ambassadors
In order to fulfill
its responsibilities, it is important that the division recruit and
retain a staff of committed, knowledgeable professionals who are
- experts in their
areas of responsibility
- dedicated to
providing these services in a responsive, proactive, and effective
manner
It is also essential
that the staff of the division communicate effectively and establish
mutually beneficial working relationships with Georgia State University
organizations and departments
Core
Operating Principles
The leadership of
the Division of Finance and Administration understand that to best support
the institutional mission, division staff must continuously strive to
improve and enhance the products and services they provide to the university
community. The core principles adopted by the Division to institute
these improvements are summarized below:
- Improve the quality
of the actual work product that we produce (improve the accuracy,
timeliness, usefulness, availability, ease of use, manner of delivery)
- Incorporate customer
service expectations into our performance expectations and better
customer service training into our employee training and orientation
programs
- Improve the documentation
for the end users of our processes and procedures (improve written
documentation, materials on the web, training opportunities)
- Develop more
meaningful performance indicators for our functions and processes
- Develop and improve
systematic methods of collecting information on the university community's
needs and expectations for, as well as their satisfaction with, our
services
- Identify creative
solutions that make the best use of its resources (human, time, money,
space) and identify revenue-generating opportunities.
