Inclement Weather Communications The winter season is approaching and we should be prepared for inclement weather conditions at any time. I am writing today to detail the procedures for advising faculty, staff, students and the metro community when weather conditions require us to close or delay the opening of the University. These procedures will apply to both weekday and weekend activities. The communications protocols for closures or delayed openings of the University during periods of inclement weather are described below. If snow or ice falls during the night, the decision to close or delay opening will be communicated through four media: television, radio, the voice mail of the Office of University Relations, and the Georgia State University web page. If snow or ice conditions develop during regular daytime working hours and a decision is made to cancel classes and close offices, the university community will be notified by the campus-wide public announcement system, via GroupWise broadcast announcements, and also through television, radio, the voice mail of the Office of University Relations, and the Georgia State University web page. We ask departments and individuals to change their voice mail messages to remind callers to listen to WRAS-FM 88.5 for official notices of the University’s operating status. Staff scheduled to work at night should listen to one of the local stations listed below and to WRAS-FM 88.5 for official updates. Listed below is more specific information about the media that will be used to communicate University closures and delayed openings. Television Stations Radio Stations University Telephone Message Recording Web Site We will do our best to inform you as early as possible about the University’s operating status during periods of inclement weather. Please remember that many of our employees travel great distances to arrive at the University and the closure decision will be based on our best judgment at the time, even though weather conditions may be changing or uncertain. We appreciate your cooperation. Thank you. |
