Graduate Research Assistantships
Graduate Research Assistantships | Fellowships
Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) are offered to a limited number of graduate students. Graduate research assistants work with faculty members on faculty research projects. The WSI Graduate Studies Committee decides which students receive GRAs and assigns the students to specific faculty members. GRA positions normally pay a total of $6,000 -- $3,000 each for the fall and spring semesters with the possibility of summer funding. A GRA position requires a maximum of 10 hours of work per week for 15 weeks during the semester and for 7 weeks during the summer. A student with a GRA pays a flat fee for tuition, plus student service fees (see the Georgia State University Graduate Catalog).
If you wish to apply for a GRA, fill out the Women’s Studies Institute Application for a Graduate Research Assistantship. Write an essay of approximately 300 words stating your reasons for applying and research interests and/or experience. Include the essay in your application packet and send your entire packet to the Office of Graduate Studies so that it will be received on or before February 15.
It is also possible for students in Women’s Studies to receive GRAs from other departments. If you are interested in a GRA from another department, contact that department directly.
Students with GRAs should register for WSt 8990, Directed Research, in order to receive course credit for their work as GRAs. These hours do not count toward the 30 hours required for the M.A., but they go on your transcript showing that you have done GRA work.
